Italy coach Marcello Lippi, has kept his promise to bring the players who helped the Azzurri qualify for the finals by selecting them in the squad while Italy will defend the World Cup next summer. This could mean there is no place for Francesco Totti in Lippi's squad.
There is no place for Totti, although Roma, Totti place team was the candidate of the Scudetto this season. Speculation states that Totti will still be given the opportunity to revive international career after a long absence since winning the World Cup 2006.
In addition to Totti, Lippi is also no room in the squad for Luca Toni (Rome) as well as veterans like Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus). Meanwhile, Villarreal striker, Giuseppe Rossi, signed as a striker at the expense of the seventh Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie and is the only foreign player in the squad.
Toni hoping that the status of borrowing from Bayern Munich to Rome would help to secure its position in Lippi's squad. Meanwhile, Del Piero should have an unfavorable season with the team as Juve failed to qualify for the finals in Serie A.
